Adventurer’s Pilgrimage

[ENG/EST]

It’s one of those rare May days when you can feel raindrops gently landing on your out-streched palm. Perfect time to spend in a bus; 15 hours away, Cappadocia nature park is waiting for the Life Correspondent to come exploring.

The desicion to go was made only hours before departure. While secretly dreaming about a trip to Cappadocia, I read Benjamin Hardy’s book about how to cheat time and live the fullest. A quotation from the book caught my eye and seriously got me thinking: “Why, having been endowed with the courageous heart of a lion, do we live as mice?”. Unable to find an answer, I started to pack my bag.

It’s the nature that had appealed me. Cappadocia’s landscape is covered with fairy chimneys: rocks looking as if truly a magical creature had formed them. The creating process of those rocks started 2 miljon years ago due to volcanic activity and erosion. Or what if scientists got it all wrong and there actually were fairys living on the Earth?

Oddly, also human has given a value to the design of this magnificent sight. Precisely, the soldiers of St’ Paul passed Cappadocia on their missionary journey and constructed churches into most particular places. Hence, one can meet Jesus and his adherents in a rustic cave. This unexpected surprise made me stop with an open mouth and witness human’s capacity for creativity. Being stressed out and drown to every day problems people often forget about the existance of such kind of miracle places.

It’s hard not to notice them in Cappadocia. Just a ten minutes’ drive can get you from one beautiful valley to another. Love Valley is precious for silence, Imagination Valley provides a great view and Pigeon Valley a challenging hiking tour. Not to mention Red Valley that lets a nature lover play a Pilgrim and praise its’ Lord, the Earth. Whirling up red dust, I run between rocks, meters taller than me, stopping only to feel the wind on my cheeks. Like returning from an assignment for the National Geographic, I leave Red Valley with complete satisfaction.

Another treasure people come to hunt in Cappadocia is a ride on a hot-air balloon. This year, however, the fear for terrorism has massmurdered tourism and balloon companies are forced to shut down one after another. Previous balloon pilots are now taxi drivers, horse keepers, bus dispatchers or work for local wine company Turasan. In my case it is the wind that, this time, keeps my feet on the gound. Doesn’t matter, my head is already in the clouds.

Stairway to Heaven

Right when I start to question if I’m still on Earth or is it heaven, dervishes start to spin in front of me. They are the representatives of Mevlevi Order that through a dance ritual called Sema get closer to God. That movement also connects their mind, emotion and spirit. The effect of dervishes’ transitional dance spreads further to me. Thus, I feel like in paradise.

Located in central Anatolia, Cappadocia occupies both hearts: Turkey’s and mine. In addition to affect of nature I become peaceful thanks to of fulfilling a dream to get there. Where do you wish to go next? Do you need a magic trick for that or you could just release the lion?

Seikleja palverännak

On maikuu hommik. Tunnen õrnalt maanduvaid vihmapiisku oma väljasirutatud peopesal. Täiuslik ilm, et päev bussis veeta: 15 tunni sõidu kaugusel ootab Kapadookia looduspark Elukorrespondenti seiklema.

Plaan minna tekkis vaid mõni tund enne väljasõitu. Salamisi Kapadookiast unistades lugesin Benjamin Hardy raamatut teemal, kuidas aega petta, et elust maksimum võtta. Mulle jäi silma üks mõtlemapanev tsitaat: „Miks, olles õnnistatud lõvi südamega, me elame nagu hiired?”. Suutmata leida vastust, pakkisin koti ja läksin.

Kapadookia tõmbab mind peamiselt looduse pärast. Sealse maastiku kujundavad haldjakorstnad: kivilahmakad, mis näevad välja nagu oleks tõesti mõni maagiline olend need loonud. Tegelikult kujunesid haldjakorstnad hoopis vulkaanipursete ja erosiooni tagajärjel. Ebatavalise pinnase tekkeprotsess algas kahe miljoni aasta eest.

Tugev tuul sunnib mind seekord jalgu maa peal hoidma. Sellest pole midagi, mu pea on juba niigi pilvedes.

Teekond taevasse
